Seedy Saturday is a free public event with a focus on heritage seeds, organic gardening, native plants, and environmental concerns. Get stocked up for gardening in 2025 with seeds from commercial vendors, a seed exchange table, and seed libraries. We will also have tables throughout the library will other interesting vendors and non-profit organizations.
This years Seedy Saturday will take place at the Smithville Branch of the West Lincoln Public Library, located at 177 West Street, Smithville.

11:15AM – 12:00PM : Flowers for Feathered Friends presented by Sean James
Gardening to attract birds can be mixed with any other kind of gardening, but requires a few specific considerations. It also has benefits to your landscape beyond the joy of birdsong. This is a
talk for more than just birders, covering concepts such as biodiversity and native plants.
Sean James owns Sean James Consulting & Design. Named by Landscape Ontario as 2020 and 2021’s Garden Communicator of the Year, gardening has been Sean James’ passion and profession for almost 40 years
12:15PM – 1:00PM : A Year of Growing presented by Tia Teeft
Gardening is so much more than a hobby, it is a way of life. What do growers do in the winter? How can we prepare for Spring? What is ‘A Day in the Life’ of a grower? Through images and organic gardening tips, we’ll cover a year of growing flowers and vegetables.
Tia began farming vegetables and herbs at Mingle Hill Farms in 2018, a certified organic property. She earned a certification as an Organic Master Gardener in 2020. Tia is firm believer that having your hands in the dirt is the best experience to learn about growing.
1:15PM – 2:00PM : Native Garden Projects presented by Liz Benneian
Liz will examine and explore four native plant projects currently happening in the West Niagara area.
Liz Benneian has a degree in Science and has been leading environmental advocacy and educational organizations since. Currently, Liz is Executive Director and Manager of Environmental Education for Ontariogreen Conservation Association, a charity that has provided environmental education programs to 90,000 students.
2:15PM – 3:00PM : Reconnect with Nature Through Gardening and Creativity presented by Nancy Larivière
Join us for an inspiring presentation and mini-workshop exploring how regenerative gardening and creative activities can foster deeper connections with nature, community, and family. Whether you’re a parent, gardener, or community leader, this session will inspire and equip you to grow meaningful connections—with nature, your family, and your community.
Nancy Larivière is a passionate advocate for regenerative living and eco-literacy, with over two decades of experience in sustainable development, gardening, and community engagement and health education. Her journey is rooted in years of hands, rewilding hearts and minds to reconnect deeply with nature. Nancy manages Ecosphere Permaculture, a growing consultancy dedicated to inspiring individuals, schools, and communities to adopt regenerative practices.
