Lincoln Pelham Public Library (LPPL) has received $5,525 from Niagara Community Foundation (NCF) to add 20 memory care kits to its collection to support community members living with memory loss. Created in collaboration with the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region (ASNR), each themed kit includes books, games, and puzzles specially designed to support individuals living with memory loss. Taking part in these activities provides meaningful engagement, whether being used by an individual or with the assistance of a care partner or loved one. A set of kits will be available exclusively to support individuals living in long-term care and retirement residences in Lincoln and Pelham.
LPPL is also grateful to be the recipient of a $750 minigrant from NCF. These funds have been used to purchase branded tote bags for the Visiting Library Service, which provides free delivery of library materials to residents of Lincoln and Pelham who are unable to visit a physical location due to illness, disability, or frailty.
Donna Burton, Library Board Chair, commented: “This specialized collection of memory care kits supports and enhances aging in place and existing outreach to local long-term care and senior residences, in alignment with our new strategic plan. With an increasing senior population in Lincoln and Pelham, the library is always seeking creative opportunities to engage with residents who face barriers.”
“It is our privilege to partner with LPPL and ASNR for this project,” says Bryan Rose, Executive Director of NCF. “We know that the impact of these kits will have a ripple effect beyond the recipients but will be a positive tool for families and loved ones. We are grateful for charity partners who are making noticeable impact in our community.”
Memory care kits are free for LPPL cardholders to borrow for three weeks. Kits will be available starting in spring 2024.
Lincoln Pelham Public Library (LPPL) formed as a union library in April 2022. LPPL serves approximately 45,000 residents across Lincoln and Pelham, with four locations in Beamsville, Vineland, Fonthill, and Fenwick.
