Welcome back! The Fonthill Branch is now open!
Accessible height shelving, generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), replaced deteriorating shelving that was nearly forty years old. This exciting update provides a better browsing and borrowing experience for customers, while also ensuring shelving meets Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines, removing barriers and ensuring access for all.
This interior update serves as the first step toward an upcoming two-phase renovation that will see the branch updated and expanded at the existing location at 43 Pelham Town Square. Construction for Phase One, which includes a new accessible entrance with sliding doors, updated washrooms, and a refurbished and expanded program room, is expected to begin in spring 2026. Phase Two will include the installation of an elevator to the basement and add an additional 3,000 square feet of public space to the main floor.
The public is invited to an open house on Friday, October 24 from 3 to 5 pm. This celebration marks the end of Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW) and the launch of a $2.5 million dollar fundraising campaign to write the next chapter of this much-loved community hub. The library will be announcing campaign co-chairs and an exciting update to the campaign.
