To serve our growing community, LPPL is embarking on an exciting $5 million renovation and expansion of the Vineland Branch.

Project Goals:
- More than double the size of the branch, adding a 6,000-square-foot addition
- Make essential repairs to address increasing challenges with leaking and flooding
- Add energy-efficient upgrades, ensuring sustainability and creating Lincoln’s first Net-Zero public building
- Remove accessibility barriers, creating a truly inclusive space for all ages and abilities
- Provide proper work areas to support staff workflow, enhance service delivery, and optimize storage
- Modernize the entire branch to ensure it is welcoming, functional, and sustainable for decades to come
Green & Sustainable
In March 2025, LPPL was awarded $2 million in federal funding for the Vineland renovation through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program. LPPL was one of only three libraries in Canada to receive this funding. The Vineland Branch will be the first Net-Zero public building in Lincoln.
To build to “net zero,” the existing one-storey building will be enveloped by the new 6,000 square-foot-addition. The building will also be retrofitted with modern, energy-efficient features, such as a new roof, HVAC system, and double-glazed windows. These upgrades will result in lower utility costs and ensure the branch is sustainable for years to come.
A Brief History
In 1886, Vineland-born philanthropist Moses F. Rittenhouse funded the community’s first library, located inside the Rittenhouse School in Vineland Station. Upon Rittenhouse’s death in 1915, the trustees of the library received $20,000 to endow the library and Victoria Hall. In 1969, the school and Victoria Hall were expropriated for the Queen Elizabeth Way interchange at Victoria Avenue. Sufficient money remained from the Rittenhouse Trust to build a new library alongside tennis courts on First Avenue.
In the late 1980s, the library board began looking at sites for a new branch to be constructed. From more than 30 sites, the current location along Victoria Avenue was selected for its central location and proximity to the local school and Heritage Village.
The current library opened in 1996, replacing the former Vineland location and a smaller branch in Jordan. The new 5,100 square-foot-branch cost $1,000,000 to build. A successful, community-led fundraising campaign contributed $100,000 toward the project.
